The cheapest way to reach Laos from Europe, Australia or North America is to fly to Bangkok first, then take a short connecting flight to Vientiane or Luang Prabang. Bangkok Airways and Lao Airlines offer multiple daily connections.

Cool dry season means comfortable travel. Avoid April (Bun Pi Mai — everything closes for 3 days) unless you want to experience the water festival. March-May sees higher temperatures and cheaper flights.
